Lexington Small Business Leader and Common-Sense Republican Kyle Whalen Launches Campaign for State Representative

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 19, 2022) - Local job creator Kyle Whalen announced today he is running for Kentucky State Representative to serve the people of Fayette County in the newly-formed 93rd District. Whalen is an award-winning small businessman who understands that success comes from hard work and talent, not from the government.

“I’ve spent the last 40 years building a construction business that remodels our customers’ houses and turns them into homes. Now, it’s time to take the hammer to Frankfort, bringing fresh ideas and a business-mindset to governing our state,” said Whalen, owner of BACK Construction and candidate for State Representative. “I’m a pro-life, pro-freedom conservative who believes in common-sense solutions. I’ll work to make government easy for everyone to understand. We need experienced leaders and decision-makers who can push aside the bickering to deliver real results for Kentucky families.”

Whalen founded BACK Construction in 1981 with three partners. Today, the company supports more than 60 employees and numerous trade partners and has received many awards for its success in Central Kentucky.

“Throughout my career, I’ve seen the power of hard work. But I’ve also seen what can happen when the heavy hand of government gets in the way,” Whalen continued. “From school choice to tax reform to healing the opioid epidemic, we need to empower workers, parents and entrepreneurs as we address our community’s toughest problems together. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and put my business experience to work in Frankfort to improve the quality of life for everyone who calls Kentucky home.

“If you want real leadership to work for your family, I hope you’ll join our team. Visit WhalenforKY.com to read about my plan to build a stronger Kentucky that Lexington families will be proud of.”

Meet Kyle

Kyle Whalen knows how to build. Forty years ago, he began building a company that has been recognized by Commerce Lexington as the Small Business of the Year. With his wife Mary Gaye, Kyle built a family. And as Lexington’s next State Representative, he’s ready to help build our community.

In 1981, Kyle founded BACK Construction during tough economic times. He faced these challenges head-on as he grew the company to over 60 employees. Kyle worked every day to deliver nothing but the best for his customers across Central Kentucky. Now, he feels called to give back to the community that has placed its trust in his team for so many years.

Kyle isn’t a career politician, and he doesn’t want to be. He’s running for State Representative to get Frankfort out of the way so entrepreneurs and families can design their own futures. It’s time for elected officials to stop focusing on petty personality disputes and instead deliver serious policy solutions to make Kentucky the best place to live and work.

Kyle and Mary Gaye live in Taborlake. They have five adult children and two grandchildren. He has served and serves on several boards and has volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and Mustard Seed Communities for many years, using his building knowledge to help others. The Whalens attend Holy Spirit Parish the Newman Center Catholic Church.
